Synopsis
Similar to the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the US, the Nikkei 225 is the most commonly used index on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and the most frequently cited indicator of Japanese equity performance. It was named after the Nikkei newspaper compiled the index in 1950. The index consists of 225 Japanese companies across a wide range of industries. Well-known companies are Toyota, Bridgestone, Kikkoman Corporation and Panasonic. Like Dow Jones, the Nikkei is a price-weighted index, and the larger the company, the greater the impact on the index. Futures refers to the country's exchange rate, interest rate, fiscal policy, economic data, stock market boom, and capital pools are all important factors that affect the market.
