StarkWare and Polygon Labs Work Together to Create Circle STARKs for Quicker, Less Expensive Transactions
Two competing Ethereum scaling teams, Polygon Labs and StarkWare, have collaborated to create Circle STARKs, an innovative validity proof that guarantees layer-2 networks expedited and reduced-cost transactions.

A novel category of cryptographic proof known as 'Circle STARKs' has reportedly been developed in collaboration between Polygon Labs and StarkWare. These two blockchain teams are customarily rivals in their endeavour to expand the Ethereum blockchain ecosystem through layer-2 networks. These confirmations are intended to perform transactions more quickly and affordably than existing technology. This is a significant development for zero-knowledge rollup technology, which is utilized to generate auxiliary layer-2 networks capable of executing transactions at a higher efficiency rate than on a foundational blockchain such as Ethereum, according to the teams.
It is anticipated that the newly introduced Circle STARKs will hasten the rollup proving process, thereby improving the efficacy and scalability of blockchains. A 'validity proof' is a collection of layer-2 transactions that are combined during the proving process and subsequently re-posted to the Ethereum mainnet blockchain. A STARK proof, which was developed by StarkWare co-founder Eli Ben-Sasson, is a specific category of validity proof. Circle STARK proofs are anticipated to reach completion considerably more rapidly than existing STARK proofs.
In an interview with CoinDesk, Brendan Farmer, co-founder of Polygon, stated that the new proving system, Plonky3, is anticipated to result in proofs that are seven to ten times quicker. Users will ultimately benefit from reduced transaction fees and the capacity to validate a greater variety of applications. The partnership between StarkWare and Polygon Labs may come as a surprise, given that the two organizations frequently engage in competition within the broader Ethereum scaling ecosystem. The precise date of the Circle STARKs release remains uncertain; however, the whitepaper, which was authored by David Levit, Shahar Papini, and Ulrich Habock of Polygon Labs, is presently accessible on the internet.
