Scroll Introduces Mainnet, an Ethereum Scaling Platform Utilising Zero-Knowledge EVM

Scroll, a new zkEVM platform, has enabled the migration of existing applications and developer toolkits to its low-cost, high-throughput mainnet in order to scale Ethereum. In the Ethereum scaling space, Scroll intends to progressively decentralise its platform and become more community-driven, joining other zkEVM solutions.

Scroll, a new entrant in the zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) industry, has reportedly declared the launch of its mainnet, as reported by Cointelegraph. By permitting existing applications and developer toolkits on Ethereum to migrate to its new scaling solution, the organisation intends to scale the blockchain. By aggregating thousands of off-chain transactions into a single entry and submitting a proof to Ethereum's mainnet that comprises a minimal data summary, Scroll's zkEVM solution aims to increase throughput and decrease transaction costs for decentralised applications operating on Ethereum.

Etherscan data indicates that Blockchain data indicates Scroll's mainnet has been operational since October 8, when the first smart contract was deployed on the platform. The launch of the mainnet is the culmination of fifteen months of rigorous security assessments and testing on three distinct testnets. Bridge and rollup contracts for Scroll were audited by Zellic and OpenZeppelin, whereas KALOS, Trail of Bits, and Zellic examined its zkEVM circuits. Across the three testnets, in excess of 450,000 smart contracts were implemented, facilitating over 90 million transactions throughout 9 million blocks and producing 280,000 ZK-proofs.

Ye Zhang, co-founder of Scroll, disclosed in an interview from the previous month that the platform would decentralise progressively over time from its initial centralised features. The Scroll team plans to present the community with a number of proposals in order to determine the optimal course of action for the undertaking. Joining Polygon, zkSync, StarkWare, and Immutable, among other zkEVM solutions that seek to scale Ethereum, Scroll was established in 2021 with the intention of becoming more community-driven.
