Wilshire US MidCap Index

The Wilshire U.S. Mid-Cap Index is a stock market index that tracks the performance of U.S. mid-sized companies. It was founded by Wilshire Associates and began to be compiled in 1995. The index includes approximately 800 companies with a market value between approximately US$2 billion and US$20 billion, covering multiple industries and sectors, such as technology, finance, consumer, medical, etc. The Vishear U.S. MidCap Index is a subset of the Vishear 5000 Index and represents approximately 10% of the index.

The Vishear U.S. Mid-Cap Index is calculated based on the market capitalization weighted average of each constituent stock, with December 31, 1980 as the base date, with a point count of 100 for that day. The index is updated each trading day at the close of business at 4 p.m. ET and is adjusted at the end of each quarter. The goal of the Vishear U.S. Mid-Cap Index is to provide a reliable and accurate indicator of the overall condition and trends of U.S. mid-cap companies.

The advantage of the Vishear U.S. Mid-Cap Index is that it captures companies with high growth potential and innovative capabilities that are generally more flexible and adaptable than large companies, and more stable and mature than small companies. In addition, the Vishear U.S. MidCap Index also provides a level of diversification because it includes companies from different industries and sectors, reducing exposure to individual industries or companies.

The disadvantage of the Vishear U.S. Mid-Cap Index is that it may face some challenges and uncertainties, such as market competition, policy changes, economic fluctuations, etc. In addition, the Vishear US MidCap Index may also be affected by liquidity and information asymmetries, as mid-cap companies are generally more difficult to buy, sell and analyze than larger companies.
